In 1989, a strange whale song at 52 Hz was recorded for the first time, never heard before. Over time, efforts were made to investigate its causes, and recently a good piece of news may have emerged.
We could define it as a cold case in biology: a story now forgotten, which began in 1989, telling of the almost accidental discovery of a solitary whale and its rare song, different from that of all other whales.
This is the only recorded specimen of a whale singing at a frequency of 52 Hz, which is much higher than the frequencies usually used by these cetaceans for their communication. However, this is also the story of William Watkins, a well-known oceanographer for her studies on bioacoustics, which over the course of 15 years recorded the song of what is now remembered as the loneliest whale in the world.
