It's a few months I don't send you my newsletter. In the last period I have been very busy mostly with my Italian projects and unfortunately I had no time and possibility to travel around Europe to propose my workshops and concerts. But I will be back in the next autumn. On 11-13 October I will be in London, teaching and performing with my great friend Guillermo Rozenthuler. So if you are interested in partecipating, send me a message asap. conctact@demovoxlab.com

Improvised singing
|
Improvised singing is an ancient art form that has fascinated cultures around the world for centuries. One of its most famous manifestations is the "canto a tenore" of Sardinia, a tradition declared an Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. This type of singing is characterized by a group of four singers who perform polyphonic songs without any musical accompaniment. Another interesting form of improvised singing is the "payada" in Argentina and Uruguay, a poetic and musical challenge between two payadores, who must respond in rhyme to a proposed theme. This type of performance is often accompanied by guitar and can last for hours, with singers testing their creativity and oratory skills. In Iran, however, "naghali" is a tradition of oral storytelling where the narrator improvises songs based on ancient epic texts, often accompanied by theatrical gestures to involve the audience. Also in Italy, the "octave rhyme" is a form of extemporaneous poetry particularly widespread in Tuscany and Abruzzo, where poets improvise verses in hendecasyllables on historical, religious or social themes. What makes improvised singing fascinating is its ephemeral and unique nature: each performance is unrepeatable and depends on the inspiration of the moment, the interaction with the audience and the cultural context in which it takes place. This spontaneity creates a special bond between the artist and the listeners, transforming each performance into a unique and unrepeatable event. Furthermore, improvised singing plays an important role in preserving oral traditions, keeping stories, legends and cultural values alive across generations.
